I need to start designing backgrounds BEFORE I do a drawing, maybe this will alleviate the frustration when I FAIL at the end of a picture. I sit there...all done......with this I'm-proud-of-it figure posing in blankness.
IS NOBODY ELSE PLAGUED BY MY DEMON?? Does anyone have any suggestions? (Aside from practise, 'cause unfortunately I've preached that right into the ground, thank-you-very-much.)
PS. Copics rule. Most amazing and complete review ever: [link]
I just want to bring up one wonderful word that has come to my attention. "PENTIMENTO" which is a drawing technique used by Renaissance masters--wrong marks in a drawing contribute to the work and give it a sense of liveliness. I "implement" this technique all the time--COMPLETELY INTENTIONALLY...yes......intentionally.
Devious Comments
unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for a remedy though...

"...Evil kitties cannot exist. To prove a kitty evil would cause the effects of kitten armour to be null and void. Don't ever detect evil on a kitty."
However, most of the time if the picture just needs something there, I just colour it in in colours that suit the mood or the character.......*Shrugs*
Hang in there! (And feel free to do a cheating background occassionally. It doesn't hurt anyone, and sometimes it's just more fun. ^_~

I hate backgrounds, mostly because I'm bad at getting the right perspective (example: [link])
Basically, I'd suggest going for simple options: either a park, a beach, a woodland, or a street. Personally, I usually use a street with lots of shops, but this tends to come out quite busy and distract you from the main aim of the picture.
